Week 33

Grade 7 Service Learning:
Grade 7 Humanities students walked into drastically changed classrooms on Thursday, May 19th. The dark and disheveled rooms eerily took them back to Middle or Dark Ages Europe as cows mooed and blood-curdling screams belted all the more from plague-infected vassals. Anarchy and chaos seemed the norm, but as raiding Grade 8 clans led a series of attacks, some adapted with better leadership, shelter, and weaponry. Fortunately, through it, Grade 7s' adaptations allowed them to stave off death,  but there were some minor casualties.

Students also presented their environmental projects which focused on one of four themes: plants, animals, humans or the planet . . . to other MS and ES students leading up to our visit next week with Jane Goodall.  The MS will be welcoming students from area schools, ES Roots and Shoots clubs, HS Global Issues for Ms. Goodall's visit on Tuesday, May 24th.

MS PSA Update:
  • The AISB Color Run will take place on Friday, May 27th, from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. on the main field of the AISB campus. Organized by the HS National Honor Society, supported by the PSA, and sponsored by Coca Cola, the event aims to raise money for the Playground Project for the Salonta Orphanage in Romania.  Please take note that tickets for this event are now sold out.
  • HS and 8th Grade Family BBQ : On Friday, May 27th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., the PSA will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual High School Barbecue for students and parents in grades 8-12. The evening includes student games and activities from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with an outdoor BBQ (weather permitting!) serving food at 6:30 p.m. It is a fun and relaxing way for families to visit and wrap up what has been a very successful school year.  Mark the date; we look forward to you joining us. Next week, PSA will send a separate email invitation to all families to better plan for the event.
  • Last PSA Meeting on June 6: Welcome to our last MS PSA meeting on Tuesday, June 6th 9-11 a.m. in the Teachers' Dining Room. Our principal Mr. Ball will tell us about this, his first, school year at AISB and also give some information about next year. School counsellor Ms. Seibel will talk about transition. This meeting will also be dedicated to saying good bye to some of our friends, for whom the time has come to leave AISB.   All parents are warmly welcome to attend!
Student Life Update:
Dear Parents,

Tonight, we have our end of the year social and lock-in! It will be a very special event! Our Blazer Voices have worked for several months to convince our community to hold this event and here we are! Seventy six Blazers have signed up for the lock-in and they will be joined by eight intrepid teachers for some lock-in mayhem and fun!

We are also busy preparing for the arrival of the amazing Dr.Jane Goodall! She will be at AISB on Tuesday from 10 to 12:30. She will be delivering a speech and visiting our seventh grade environmental exhibition.

A huge thank you goes out to the whole community for supporting our "Week for Ecuador". Every day was a smashing success and we will be sharing with you soon the final amount that we will be sending to the International School in Quito.

Next week on Thursday, sixth grade will be hosting the Hungarian National Junior Special Olympics Team for a whole day friendly track & field meet. This will be the last event of a very productive and successful year with our Special Olympics partners.

Lastly, please don't forget about the all school Color Run which will take place on Friday, May 27 and the Prizma School Visit which will take place on Saturday, May 28 and which is open to all interested Middle School students.

May the Blazer Force be with you,

Marc Lavoie
Middle School Student Life Coordinator / M.S French

This is going to be a fantastic experience for our students and visiting athletes.
Please note the following important information for the day:
  • Booster Club Announcement:
    • Please  consider contributing to the efforts of the Blazer Booster Club by supporting the athletes of AISB.  All proceeds raised as a result of Booster Club efforts benefit the students of AISB.
    • Here's what you can do to help:

We would like to encourage parents of participating athletes to participate in any way including filling the stands to support our Blazer teams.  The Blazer Booster Club is very grateful for any assistance received from others.  Please consider this opportunity to support Blazer athletics and the students of AISB.

We look forward to hosting the meet and a great weekend of athletic, sportsmanship, and
DVAC camaraderie.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Best Regards,
Mr. Fleming

Grade 8 Drama Major:

The 8th grade Drama Major has been exploring the question "How does directorial choice influence performance?". Scripts from different time periods and genres including "Tartuffe" by Moliere a comedy from Neil Simon provided a platform for our work.  Having made decisions about staging, costuming, blocking, sound and light our duet's were performed to the 8th grade during advisory.  Well done 8th grade!
